Monmouth vs. Towson Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 1-14-2023

Once Upon A Time In Las Vegas – Wildcard Edition

Monmouth (1-16 SU, 4-13 ATS, 0-4 CAA) travels to Maryland to face Towson (10-7 SU, 8-9 ATS, 2-2 CAA) on Saturday afternoon at 3pmET from SECU Arena.

These teams met last season in Towson when Monmouth was a member of the MAAC.  The Hawks were victorious 79-71 as a 4-point road dog.

Monmouth wasn't expected to win the CAA this season coming over from the MAAC after losing five starters. But head coach King Rice was probably expecting a lot better than just one win so far this season. That victory came against old rival Manhattan on Dec. 4. Since then, the Hawks have lost eight straight games including a 77-57 defeat at Hofstra on Wednesday from Long Island.

In the loss to the Pride, Tahron Allen led Monmouth with 13 points, while Myles Foster added 11 points on 4-of-10 shooting. They shot 40% from the field and 6-of-16 (38%) from beyond the arc. But Hofstra's offense was just too much as they shot 56% from the field and 8-of-20 (40%) from beyond the arc.

Overall, the Hawks are allowing 79.4 points per game on 49% shooting (359th) and 39% (355th) from beyond the arc. They are also getting outrebounded by -5.33 per game to rank 12th out of 13th in the CAA. Offensively, they rank last in the league in free throw percentage (61.6%), 13th in field goal percentage (38.2%) and last in three-point percentage (27.7%).
