College Basketball pick today: La Salle Explorers +15 over Villanova Wildcats (-110), 6:30 pm ET
Villanova could be firing on all cylinders later in the year, but it's likely we see some early-season struggles. The reason for this is they will be without Justin Moore for a large chunk of the year as he works his way back from injury.
From a matchup perspective, given that this is opening night, we must speculate the styles in which Kyle Neptune and Fran Dunphy will play this year. We can assume Neptune will play a similar style to his predecessor Jay Wright, which revolves around position-less basketball and shooting threes. Last year, his Fordham team ranked 62nd in three-point attempt rate, and we should only expect that to go up with a more talented roster. Two potentially key players in this matchup for La Salle are the Drame twins, who transferred from Saint Peter's. They look to be quick enough defensively to guard on the perimeter, therefore backing the Explorers to keep this one relatively close will be the play tonight.
