Spencer Arrighetti has not only been one of the best rookies but he's also been one of the best pitchers in the league in the last month or so. After a rough start to his MLB career, Arrighetti was spectacular in August. He posted a 1.95 ERA with a 0.90 WHIP in 5 starts and limited hitters to a .168 batting average and a .187 xBA. Arrighetti has also recorded an impressive 38% strikeout rate in his last 5 starts which demonstrates his swing-and-miss stuff has drastically improved from the beginning of the season.
Arrighetti’s counterpart will be Nick Martinez, who has bounced between the bullpen and starting rotation this year. Between 11 starts and 26 relief appearances, he has a 3.77 ERA with a 1.13 WHIP which has made him one of the more reliable arms that Cincinnati has. However, since being moved back into the rotation last month, it's been a tough few weeks for Martinez. He's allowed 15 runs, 26 hits and 6 home runs in his last 4 starts.
