It’s a fantastic Friday for baseball, and there are plenty of exciting games on the slate tonight. Action begins in the North Side of Chicago between the Reds and Cubs and concludes with a late start between the Yankees and Giants in San Francisco. I’ve crafted a 3-team parlay for today that pays out at over 10/1 odds, so let’s get right into it!
Philadelphia Phillies -1.5 (+110) over St. Louis Cardinals
Admittedly, the St. Louis Cardinals are red-hot right now. The Cardinals had a sluggish start to the season but have come alive in the last few weeks. Normally, I wouldn't fade a team that's been hot at the plate. The difference in this game is the fact that Miles Mikolas is facing the Phillies. In May, Mikolas has a 5.33 ERA and is allowing a .257 batting average with a 41% hard-hit rate. Bryce Harper, Alec Bohm, and Brandon Marsh have all had great success against the right-hander in their careers too. With the Phillies starting Aaron Nola on his home mound, this series opener should end with a multi-run win for the Phillies.
Detroit Tigers ML (+142) over Boston Red Sox
Jack Flaherty took a no-hitter into the 7th inning last night against the Red Sox. It was a combination of great pitching by Flaherty and terrible plate appearances by Boston. Following their 4-game sweep of the Rays in Tampa Bay, the Sox dropped a series to the Brewers at home and then lost 3 of 4 games against the Orioles. The Boston lineup is already missing Trevor Story, Triston Casas, and Masataka Yoshida, but now Tyler O'Neill is out for the next week or so. I'm expecting this to be a low scoring game since Tanner Houck is pitching, but if the Tigers can stay competitive in the first half of the game, they should be able to take advantage of Boston's tired bullpen.
Kansas City Royals ML (+120) over San Diego Padres
The Royals have been an extremely fun team to watch this season. Between their veteran starting rotation and youthful lineup, the Royals have found the perfect combination for winning. Michael Wacha has been one of several stud pitchers for Kansas City this year as he comes into this game having allowed 2 earned runs or less in 6 of his last 8 starts. On the other side, Dylan Cease has been hit around in the last two weeks. After a fantastic April, Cease has allowed 12 runs, 22 hits, and 4 home runs in his last 16.1 innings. The Royals offense is extremely balanced from the leadoff spot to the nine hole, so I'm taking a chance on them to win tonight's series opener at great odds.
