Late-season betting is a tough line to walk. There are too many teams with little or nothing to play for and we never know how teams plan to use their pitching. With that said there are still opportunities to be had so let’s dive into one: Cardinals vs. Brewers.

The Brewers find themselves in one of the few remaining playoff races and today send their 1B ace to the mound in the form of Brandon Woodruff. Woodruff got off to a rough start to the season but after an injury, he has had an excellent second half. This Cardinals offense has two potential MVP candidates in Goldschmidt and Arenado but Woodruff is plenty talented enough to hold them off. He has some of the more dramatic times through the order splits I have ever seen with a wOBA of 0.265 and 0.271 in the first and second time through the order and then 0.341 in the third time. His issue has mostly been being left in games for a bit too long. This sets up extremely well for an NRFI bet.
On the other side of the coin, Jose Quintana takes the mound. The lefty has had a bounce-back season with the key being the lack of homers he has allowed. He limits walks and has done a fantastic job of keeping the ball in the yard. Milwaukee has one of the worst offenses in baseball against left-handed pitchers. As a team, they have a wRC+ of 89 which is the seventh worst in baseball. Their biggest issue is strikeouts which does not play extremely well into the strength of Quintana but their overall inability to do damage against lefties should make it possible for him to clear the first.
