MLB Ballparks With Retractable Roofs

There are few things more frustrating in sport than a game being postponed or cancelled due to rain. While outdoor fields often mean teams are at the mercy of the weather, ballparks with retractable roofs mean that games can go on in a controlled environment, enjoying the sun on fine days and the safety of an enclosed environment on the rainy ones.

MLB Ballparks With Retractable Roofs

There are seven Major League Baseball stadiums with retractable roofs – American Family Field (Milwaukee Brewers), Chase Field (Arizona Diamondbacks), Globe Life Field (Texas Rangers), loanDepot park (Miami Marlins), Minute Maid Park (Houston Astros), Rogers Centre (Toronto Blue Jays), and T-Mobile Park (Seattle Mariners).

The Blue Jays’ Rogers Centre is the largest-capacity ballpark'with a retractable roof, holding a total of 49,282 people.

Tropicana Field, home of the Tampa Bay Rays, is the only active MLB stadium with a fixed dome roof. Located in St. Petersburg, Florida, the ballpark’s roof was designed at a slanted angle to protect the stadium from hurricanes and minimize cooling costs by reducing the interior volume.
