Things were cruising along for the Missouri Tigers as they jumped out to a 9-0 start on the season and with only one true nail-biter in the bunch. Then a visit from Kansas knocked the Tigers back into reality. Before taking a week off for school finals, the Tigers hosted #6 Kansas and fell 95-67 to their former Big 12 rivals. Four Tigers scored in double figures in the blowout loss in front of a sold-out home crowd. D'Moi Hodge and Nick Honor led the way with 15 points each. Kansas, at one point, hit 11 straight field goals and built a 50-33 halftime cushion. The Tigers hot just 40% from the field, their lowest mark of the season, and allowed Kansas to shoot 57% for the game.  The Tigers also turned the ball over a season-high 21 times against the defending national champions.

“It was an outstanding atmosphere. Our guys did a great job coming into this game shooting the ball well in practice. Again, th ere's a reason why Kansas is top‐10 in the country. I thought we showed and displayed different things throughout the game where we almost had runs going but somehow, somehow, whether a missed free throw or turnover, it sort of took the wind out of the sail. Our crowd was outstanding throughout the game. We didn't execute how we needed to execute, whether it was easy shots, a lot of open shots, etc. but I credit Kansas, they had a great victory.” Missouri head coach Dennis Gates said after the loss.

The Tigers are 2nd in the nation in scoring thus far with an average of 90.4 points per game. They own a +14.5 point differential on the season despite the near 30-point loss to Kansas. Missouri is shooting 51% on the season overall and are hitting 35% from 3pt range and drilling early 10 3pt field goals per game. The Tigers are, however, allowing the opposition to shoot 37% from 3pt range and give up nine 3pt field goals per game. The Tigers interior defense is a bit suspect and the team is allowing nearly 15 made free throws per game. They are also being out-rebounded 363 to 346 on the season for a -1.7 rebounding differential. The Tigers main advantage on the defensive end is causing turnovers. They are forcing over 20 turnovers per game, 3rd in the nation.
