A pair of teams from the SEC take the floor looking to pick up a victory down in the Show-Me State. The Mississippi State Bulldogs are on the road as they make the trip to take on the Missouri Tigers Tuesday night. Mississippi State beat Ole Miss 69-61 on the road in their previous contest, covering the line as a 3.5-point favorite, Saturday evening. Missouri was knocked off 69-60 by Texas A&M, losing outright as a 2.5-point favorite, in their most recent game Saturday afternoon. In the all-time series between the teams, the Bulldogs own a 13-5 advantage and have won the last seven meetings. That includes a 63-52 home win in the first meeting this season on February 4.

Mississippi State started the year 11-0, lost seven of their next eight games, and bounced back with six wins in their last seven as they outlasted Ole Miss on the road Saturday. The Bulldogs improved to 18-9 overall and stand 6-8 in the SEC, leaving them tied for 10th in the conference standings. Against Ole Miss, Mississippi State started strong, leading 14-4 five minutes into the game, but trailed by one at the half. The Bulldogs battled in a tight second half where neither team led by more than three to force overtime. In the extra session, Mississippi State opened with a 7-2 run to take a 63-58 lead with 2:30 remaining and went on to the win. The Bulldogs shot 46.2% from the field, including three of 18 from three-point range, and controlled the glass by a 46-32 margin to offset 19 turnovers in the game. Cameron Matthews and Tolu Smith (12 rebounds) each had 17 points to lead Mississippi State in the victory.

The Bulldogs are 323rd in the nation in scoring average with 65.9 points per game on the season. Mississippi State is 58th in rebounding by collecting 37.3 boards per contest and hand out 14.6 dimes per game, which is 83rd in the nation. The Bulldogs have been excellent on the defensive end, ranking 6th in scoring defense by allowing an average of 59.3 points per game. Tolu Smith leads the team in scoring as he puts up 14.9 points plus 8.3 rebounds a night. Shakeel Moore is the next player in line in the scoring department as he puts up 9.1 points plus three boards a night. Cameron Matthews, D.J. Jeffries, Dashawn Davis, Tyler Stevenson, Shawn Jones Jr., Will McNair Jr., Eric Reed Jr., Kimani Hamilton and Jamel Horton Jr. are all looked at for solid minutes in coach Chris Jans’ rotation. Mississippi State is shooting 42.6% from the floor as a team on the year. The Bulldogs are knocking down 5.6 triples per game while shooting 28.2% from beyond the arc. Mississippi State has been below average at the free throw line this season, hitting 63.8% of their chances, leaving them just 348th in the nation.
