No. 15 Mississippi State will try to keep its perfect season alive when it faces Drake in the Battle in the Vault on Tuesday evening in the battle of the Bulldogs. Mississippi State snuck past Nicholls State in a 68-66 final on Saturday, improving to 11-0 overall. Drake is on a two-game losing skid after losing to Saint Louis by eight points its last time out.

Mississippi State has taken advantage of its soft schedule up to this point, racing out to an 11-0 start to the season. The Bulldogs have been favored in all 11 games, but four of them were single-digit spreads. They beat Marquette and Utah in November to add some quality wins to their resume, and they have taken care of business as large favorites since then. However, they have only covered the spread once in their last six games. They did not come anywhere close to covering the 21.5-point spread against Nicholls State on Saturday, winning by just two points in that game.

The Bulldogs are one of five undefeated teams in college basketball heading into the Battle in the Vault. They shot just 3 of 15 from the floor to open their game against Nicholls and made 7 of 26 overall in the first half. Senior big man Tolu Smith did enough to pick up the win in the end, scoring 15 points and grabbing eight rebounds, with 12 of his points coming in the second half. He leads the team with 16.2 points and 8.9 rebounds per game, while senior forward D.J. Jeffries is averaging 10.2 points and 5.4 boards. The Bulldogs have not shot well from the perimeter though, knocking down just 30.0% of their attempts. They have salvaged their possessions by ranking second nationally in offensive rebounding rate. This will be a good test for them, as Drake is No. 51 of 363 Division I teams in defensive rebounding.
