It’s an interconference tilt on the ice as a pair of teams do battle in the province of Quebec. The Minnesota Wild are on the road as they make the trip to face the Montreal Canadiens Tuesday night. Minnesota was beaten 7-4 on the road by Toronto in their previous contest Saturday night. Montreal earned a tough 3-2 win over Chicago in their previous contest at home Saturday night. In their last 10 meetings, the Wild own a commanding 9-1-0 advantage and have taken the last five matchups. That includes a 4-1 home victory in the most recent matchup between the teams on November 1, 2022.

Minnesota won their opener despite getting outshot 41-21 by Florida but things didn’t go their way on the road in Toronto Saturday night. The Wild entered Monday 1-1-0 on the season and stood tied for third in the Central Division, two points behind the Avalanche. Minnesota entered Monday tied for 17th in goals per game this season as they put up an average of three goals a night. The Wild are tied for 17th in goals against as they have allowed 3.50 goals per contest this season. Minnesota is tied for 13th in power play success as they have converted 20% of their chances with the man advantage this season. The Wild stands tied for 25th in penalty killing as they have successfully worked through 66.7% of their shorthanded situations on the year.

Against Toronto, Minnesota played with fire and it came back to burn them as the Maple Leafs’ weapo ns came through in a big way offensively. The Wild held a 13-12 advantage in shots on goal in the opening period but trailed 3-1 after 20 minutes of play. Ryan Hartman opened the scoring with his first goal of the season at 9:32 off assists from Kirill Kaprizov and Jonas Brodin. The Wild gave up three goals before the period was over to trail by a pair at the first intermission. In the second period, Minnesota saw the shots even at nine but outscored Toronto 2-1 to trail 4-3 after two periods of play. The Wild gave up the opening goal of the stanza to trail 4-1 before Matt Boldy made it a 4-2 game with his first of the season at 4:09 off assists from Mats Zuccarello and Calen Addison. Later in the period, Marco Rossi made it a one-goal game with his first of the year at 9:51 off assists from Marcus Foligno and Brock Faber. In the third period, Minnesota was outshot 12-10 and outscored 3-1 to wind up with the loss. The Wild gave up three goals in a 2:20 span midway through the third period to trail 7-3 before Brandon Duhaime potted his first of the year at 17:32 off assists from Connor Dewar and Jake Middleton to close the scoring. Filip Gustavsson made 26 saves for the Wild, who were outshot 33-32, in the loss. Marc-Andre Fleury is expected to get the start in goal here.
