The Minnesota Wild face the Detroit Red Wings with both teams looking to improve on rocky seasons. The Red Wings have a 10-6-3 record and with only five wins in their last 10 games, they are in the middle of the Atlantic Division. The Wild are having a rough season despite their offense stepping up and scoring 3.06 goals per game. Kirill Kaprizov, Mats Zuccarello, and Joel Eriksson Ek have scored 20 goals and 33 assists to lead the top two lines but the rest of the offense has also stepped up. Ryan Hartman, Marco Rossi, and Pat Maroon have combined for 15 goals and 16 assists while defensemen Jacob Middleton and Brock Faber have added four goals and 13 assists from the point to open up the offense.

The offense has stepped up but the defense is one of the worst in the NHL, allowing 3.94 goals per game including 24 goals in the last six games. Jonas Brodin and Brock Faber have combined for 1.9 defensive point shares but the rest of the unit has struggled, allowing opponents to find open shots on the net with ease. In addition, goaltender Filip Gustavsson has struggled with a .882 save percentage and a 4.03 goals-against av erage on 314 shots with -6.2 goals saved above average.
