The Minnesota Wild are on the road as they make the trip to take on the Carolina Hurricanes Thursday night. Minnesota comes in off a 4-2 road win over Washington in their previous contest Tuesday night. Carolina was edged 4-3 in a shootout by Vancouver in their previous contest Sunday. Minnesota won their third straight game as their rest advantage paid dividends against a Washington team playing for the second straight night. The Wild enter this game 25-14-4 on the season and stand third in the Central Division, five points behind the Stars and Jets for the top spot. They were six points ahead of Nashville to remain in the final guaranteed playoff spot in the division. Minnesota is tied for 17th in goals per game as they average 3.14 goals per contest. The Wild are 9th in goals against as they allow 2.74 goals per contest this season. Minnesota is 14th in power play success by converting 22.8% of their chances with the man advantage. The Wild are 15th in penalty killing as they successfully navigate 79.9% of their shorthanded situations this season.

Against Washington on the road Tuesday night, fresh legs proved to be the difference dow n the stretch to put the game in the win column. Minnesota was outshot 13-3 in the opening period of play and went to the dressing room trailing 1-0 on the scoreboard. In the second period, the Wild held a 14-9 shot advantage and outscored Washington 3-1 to take a 3-2 lead after two periods of play. Jared Spurgeon tied the game with an unassisted marker, his sixth of the season, at the 50-second mark. After Washington regained the lead, Jonas Brodin tied the game at two with his first goal of the year at 13:12 off assists from Connor Dewar and Matt Dumba. Spurgeon tallied his second goal of the night and seventh of the year at 18:15 off assists from Dewar and Ryan Reaves to give the Wild a 3-2 lead. In the third period, Minnesota was outshot by a 14-5 margin but tallied the lone goal to secure the win. Joel Eriksson Ek closed the scoring with an empty net goal, his 15th of the season, at 19:06 off an assist from Frederick Gauthier. Filip Gustavsson made 34 saves for the W ild, who were outshot 36-22, in the victory. Marc-Andre Fleury is expected to be between the pipes for the Wild here.
