The 2023 Major League Baseball season goes on Monday, July 17, with the Minnesota Twins taking on the Seattle Mariners in the American League battle at T-Mobile Park in Seattle, Washington, and the first pitch is set for 9:40 PM ET.
Minnesota and Seattle lock horns for the first time in 2023, opening a four-game series at T-Mobile Park. Last year, Minnesota went 4-3 against Seattle, and the Twins took two out of three games from the Mariners in Seattle.
Sunday’s games have been excluded from the analysis, and the 47-46 Minnesota Twins played the lowly Oakland Athletics, looking to sweep a three-game set at Oakland Coliseum. After a 5-4 win in Friday’s opener, the Twins outlasted the A’s 10-7 on Saturday night. It was their seventh victory in 11 games, and the Twins were topping the AL Central a game and a half above the Cleveland Guardians.
Minnesota is slashing a decent .248/.331/.419 with 21 extra-base hits and 11 home runs in July. On the pitching side of things, the Twins have amassed a 4.20 ERA, 1.12 WHIP, and a .217 opposing batting average.
The Twins haven’t announced who’ll get the starting call Monday in Seattle. We should see Sonny Gray or Bailey Ober on the mound, and Gray followed Ober in the rotation in the first half of the season. Ober is 5-4 with a strong 2.61 ERA, 0.97 WHIP, and 79/18 K/BB ratio in 14 starts (82.2 innings pitched) this season. On the other side, Gray is 4-3 with a 2.89 ERA, 1.27 WHIP, and 101/39 K/BB ratio in 18 starts (99.2 IP) in 2023.
