Minnesota (4-0 SU and 4-0 ATS) jumped all over Miami in the series opener on Monday. The Twins will send ex-Marlin Pablo López to the mound for Wednesday's matinee. The 27-year-old righty was 10-10 with a 3.75 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, and 174 strikeouts in 32 starts last season for Miami.
Miami (1-4 SU and 1-4 ATS) dropped three of four to the Mets and didn't get things turned around in game one of its series with Minnesota. The Marlins will turn to lefty Jesús Luzardo in the series finale. The 25-year-old went 4-7 with a 3.32 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, and 120 strikeouts in 18 starts last season.
Are the Twins primed for a breakout season? Minnesota has certainly looked like contenders through its first four games.
The Twins' bats came alive on Monday in Miami, routing the Marlins 11-1. Minnesota did its damage with the long ball, as Max Kepler hit a leadoff homer, Joey Gallo went deep with a three-run shot, Trevor Larnach homered in the seventh, and Ryan Jeffers joined the party in the ninth. After scoring only four runs in the first two games against Kansas City, the Twins erupted for 18 combined runs in the next two games. They also benefitted from a solid outing by Tyler Mahle, who gave up one run and five hits in five innings on Monday.

Minnesota is scoring 5.5 runs per game (9th) with a .268 average (9th) and .790 OPS (9th). They have hit six homers (7th) but have yet to steal a base (27th). The Twins' pitching staff has a 1.25 ERA (3rd), 1.06 WHIP (5th), and one quality start (11th) through four games. They're averaging 7.25 strikeouts per nine innings (11th).
The Twinkies will turn to López on Wednesday. He was acquired this offseason from Miami in a trade that sent Luis Arráez to the Marlins. The right-hander picked up a win in his first start for Minny, striking out eight and giving up no runs in 5.1 innings of work versus KC.
