Minnesota Twins vs. Kansas City Royals Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 4-1-2023

After a day off Friday, a pair of teams from the AL Central continue a series on the diamond in the Midwest. The Minnesota Twins are on the road as they play the middle game of a three-game set with the Kansas City Royals Saturday afternoon. In the season opener Thursday afternoon, Minnesota opened the season on a positive note, earning a low-scoring 2-0 victory. After winning the season series 12-7 last season, the Twins quickly staked themselves to a 1-0 advantage this season. Will they earn a series win by prevailing here or will the Royals set up a rubber game Sunday by prevailing here?

Minnesota won a pitchers’ duel that most people likely wouldn’t have expected on Opening Day to start the 2023 season on the right foot. The Twins now look to secure a series win in the opening series of the season as they take the field here. On Thursday, Minnesota finished with 10 hits in the game with Byron Buxton (run), Trevor Larnach (run, RBI) and Christian Vazquez each recording a pair of hits in the game. A two-run sixth inning proved to be enough for Pablo Lopez (1-0) to earn the win on the mound. He threw 5.1 scoreless innings, allowing two hits with three walks and eight strikeouts, before turning things over to the bullpen. Four relievers combined for 3.2 scoreless innings with Jhoan Duran throwing a scoreless ninth, allowing no hits with one walk and one strikeout, for his first save.

Sonny Gray is on the bump for his first start of the season for the Twins in this contest . He made 24 starts in his first season in Minnesota last season, posting an 8-5 record with a 3.08 ERA, a 1.128 WHIP, 36 walks and 117 strikeouts over 119.2 innings of work on the year. Gray has had plenty of success against the Royals in his career as he looks to sustain that here. This marks his 11th career start against Kansas City and he’s posted a 7-2 record with a 1.66 ERA, a 0.939 WHIP, 12 walks and 59 strikeouts over 65 innings of work. Gray is 2-1 with a 2.89 ERA, a 1.25 WHIP, seven walks and 19 strikeouts over 28 innings of work in four career starts at Kauffman Stadium.
