Minnesota Twins vs. Cleveland Guardians Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 5-6-2023

The Minnesota Twins and Cleveland Guardians continue their three-game weekend series on Saturday night in Cleveland. The Guardians caught the Twins from behind last season to capture the AL Central Division crown after trailing them all of the first half. This year, the Guardians once again find themselves looking up at the Twins in the standings as the season shifts into late spring. The pitching matchup on Saturday will feature Twins' righty Sonny Gray (4-0, 0.77) taking on Guardians' lefty Logan Allen (1-1, 2.45). The first pitch is scheduled for 6:10 PM EST.

The Twins started off this current road trip on a down note by losing the first two games to the White Sox in Chicago. On Thursday, Minnesota rallied to win game three in extra innings to salvage a win in the series. Minnesota is currently the only team in the AL Central with a winning record but still holds a modest lead in first place. On Friday night, with a chance to build on that lead, the Twins got seven shutout innings from starter Bailey Ober and a two-run homer from Max Kepler in a 2-0 win over the Guardians.

The Twins will have the good fortune of handing the ball to red-hot Sonny Gray on Saturday night. Gray is 4-0 on the season in six starts with an ERA of just 0.77. He has three quality starts thus far and has allowed 25 hits in 35 innings pitched. Gray has walked 12 and struck out 41 batters on the season. On the road, Gray is 1-0 in two starts with a 0.90 ERA and a K/9 ratio of 7.2. Gray has a 41.4 hard-hit percentage thus far, the second highest of his career but also has the second highest strikeout percentage of his career at 29.3 percent.
