The red-hot Minnesota Timberwolves travel to Texas to take on the San Antonio Spurs in a Western Conference matchup on Friday night. The T-Wolves have won four straight games and look like a serious contender in the Western Conference thus far. The Spurs are 3-5 on the season and have lost three straight as they continue on one of the NBA's most-viewed schedules thanks to the presence of rookie superstar-in-the-making in Victor Wembanyama. The opening tap is scheduled for 8:00 PM EST.

The Minnesota Timberwolves brought in Rudy Gobert last season and were criticized for bringing in a defensive stopper in a league that has become offensive-centric. The experiment was mildly successful last season but was ultimately done in by the injury to power forward Karl-Anthony Towns who severely hampered their offense in his absence. Thus far this season, with healthy Towns next to Gobert, the T-Wolves' decision to bring in Gobert looks genius. The T-Wolves are 5-2 heading into this matchup following a 122-101 win over the Pelicans on Wednesday night. Anthony Edwards led the way with 26 points and a season-high eight assists in the game while Towns chipped in with 23 points. Gobert was dominant down low with 17 points and 20 rebounds to help the T-Wolves to their fourth straight win.

“Regardless of who we play, who's hurt, we know that our biggest opponent is ourselves,” Gobert said. &#x20 1C;I'm really proud the way we came out. We came out regardless of who's on the court. It's still the NBA, and guys are talented.”

The T-Wolves have been able to do thus far this season what they hoped would happen last year when they brought in Gobert. Minnesota is first in the NBA in points allowed per game this season. The Wolves are also first in opponent's field goal percentage and #1 in 3-point defense. They have been better offensively as well with Towns healthy. The Wolves are 9th in field goal percentage and 9th in 3-point field goal percentage. They are also sixth in the league in rebounding and sixth in blocked shots.

Key Injuries: G Jordan McGLaughlin (knee) and G Jaylen Clark (achilles) are out.
