The Minnesota Timberwolves have come out of the gates hungry this season, playing tenacious defense and leading the Western Conference heading into the New Year. On Saturday night before getting two days off for the holidays, Minnesota took down the Sacramento Kings at Sacramento 110-98. Anthony Edwards poured in 34 points to go along with 10 assists and big man Rudy Gobert chipped in with 21 points and 17 rebounds as the Wolves improved to 10-5 on the road this season. The Wolves picked up the win despite the absence of Karl-Anthony Towns, sitting out with knee soreness.
“I think it’s starting to hit for a lot of us. We always kind of felt that we could compete with anybody. Now we've won a whole bunch of different ways,” Minnesota point guard Mike Conley said.
“We’ve learned to win and come back late in games. When you take a step back and look at it, that’s a r ecipe for success on how to win later in the season. We’re going to continue to grow and guys are going to continue to learn from what we’ve done so far.”
The Wolves come into this Western Conference matchup with the 18th-ranked scoring offense in the NBA. They are eighth in field goal percentage and 9th in 3-point field goal percentage. The Wolves are 22nd in 3-point field goals per game this season. Defensively, the Wolves have been downright dominant. They are first in the NBA in scoring defense. They are second in opponent's field goal percentage and third in 3-point defense. The Wolves are 15th in total rebounding this season and 24th in turnovers per game.
Key Injuries: Towns is questionable with the knee injury.
