The Minnesota Timberwolves are on the road as they make the trip to take on the New York Knicks as the teams kick off 2024 with a matinee tilt Monday afternoon. Minnesota comes in off a 108-106 home win over the Lakers in their previous contest Saturday night, though they failed to cover the line as a four-point favorite. New York was dropped 140-126 on the road by Indiana in their previous contest Saturday night, failing to cover as a four-point underdog. In the all-time regular season series between the teams, the Knicks own a 35-30 advantage but the Timberwolves have won the last two meetings, including a 117-100 home win in the first meeting this season on November 20, 2023.

Minnesota won their second straight and their seventh in the last nine games as they held off the Lakers at home Saturday night. The Timberwolves entered Sunday 24-7 on the season and held a 2.5-game lead on the Thunder and Nuggets in the Northwest Division for the top spot. They held the top spot in the Western Conference playoff picture by that same 2.5-game margin over the Thunder and Nuggets. Against Los Angeles, Minnesota trailed by as many as 11 in the opening quarter before trimming the margin to two after 12 minutes. The Timberwolves were down as many as nine in the second quarter but rallied to lead by four at the half. Minnesota led by five after three quarters and was up seven with 36 seconds remaining though they had to hang on for dear life to earn the victory. The Timberwolves shot an even 50% from the field, including 12 of 34 from three-point range, and held a 45-39 advantage on the boards to offset turning the ball over 19 times. Anthony Edwards led Minnesota with 31 points in the victory.

For the year, Minnesota is 21st in the league in scoring offense with 113.3 points per game. The Timberwolves stand 10th in rebounding by pulling down 44.4 boards a contest while they are 18th in assists by handing out 25.9 dimes a contest. Minnesota has been above average on the defensive end of the floor as they are 1st in scoring defense by allowing 107.4 points per game. Anthony Edwards leads the team in scoring as he averages 26 points, 5.4 rebounds and 5.2 assists per contest. Karl-Anthony Towns (21.1 points, 9.3 rebounds), Mike Conley (11.7 points, 6.2 assists), Rudy Gobert (12.9 points, 12 rebounds, 2.2 blocks) and Naz Reid (12.9 points, 4.5 rebounds) are decent secondary options on the offensive end of the floor. Jaden McDaniels (10.7 points), Nickeil Alexander-Walker, Kyle Anderson, Shake Milton, Troy Brown Jr. and Jordan McLaughlin are part of the rotation. Minnesota is 21st by splashing 12.1 three-pointers a night while the team is 5th in three-point shooting by hitting 38.2% from beyond the arc.

Clark (Achilles) is expected to be out until mid-February after suffering an injury while still at UCLA.
