The NBA season continues with a Western Conference matchup on Saturday when the Minnesota Timberwolves (8-3, 6-5 ATS) travel to take on the New Orleans Pelicans (5-6, 5-5-1 ATS). The Pelicans will be on the second night of a back-to-back, as they host the Nuggets on Friday night (Note: this article was published before the results of the Nuggets/Pelicans game). Minnesota is coming off a loss in Phoenix, going down on the road to the Suns 133-115 as 4.5-point dogs. The Pelicans just defeated the Mavericks on the road, winning 131-110 as 3.5-point dogs. Minnesota defeated New Orleans earlier in the season 122-101 at home. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 EST from the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans.

The Minnesota Timberwolves had won seven straight games before finally losing in Phoenix on the second night of a back-to-back. The Timberwolves are currently on a five-game road trip against Western Conference opponents. Phoenix led by as many as 28 points in the game, Minnesota attempted a late run in the game, winning the 4th quarter by 10 points, but it was not enough. Karl-Anthony Towns led the way for Minnesota with 25 points and seven rebounds, and no other player scored more than 15 for the Timberwolves.

Anthony Edwards is off to another hot start in his 4th season in the league. The 6'4 guard is averaging 26.3 PPG, 5.8 RPG, and 5.2 APG. Edwards just had his first off-game of the year, only scoring 13 points in 31 minutes against the Suns. Karl-Anthony Towns has been solid for Minnesota, he is averaging 21.0 PPG and 9.3 RPG and has scored 20 or more in the past five. Naz Reid is a high-e nergy post player off the bench, he is third on the team in scoring with 13.0 PPG in just 21.5 minutes per. Rudy Gobert is the early front-runner for Defensive Player of the Year, he is averaging 11.2 PPG, 12.4 RPG and 2.3 blocks per game.

Mike Conley is the steady ball handler and distributor for Minnesota, he is averaging 11.0 PPG and 5.1 APG. Jaden McDaniels is typically the fifth starter, and is averaging 9.9 PPG as a 6'9 small forward. Minnesota has the 17th most efficient offense in the NBA, but are much better on the defensive end, where they are 2nd in efficiency according to dunksandthrees.com. Minnesota plays at the 18th fastest tempo in the league.
