It’s an interconference battle on the hardwood as a pair of teams looking to earn an early season win take the floor in Hotlanta. The Minnesota Timberwolves are on the road as they make the trip to take on the Atlanta Hawks Monday night. Minnesota comes in off a 106-90 home victory over Miami Saturday night, covering the line as an eight-point favorite. Atlanta fell 126-120 at home to the Knicks in their most recent contest, failing to cover the line as a one-point underdog, Friday night. In the all-time regular season series between the teams, the Hawks own a 40-25 advantage but the Timberwolves took both meetings last season. That includes a 125-124 home win in the most recent matchup on March 22, 2023.

Minnesota bounced back from a loss to Toronto in their season opener on the road as they took advantage of a shorthanded Miami squad in their home opener Saturday night to earn the win. The Timberwolves evened their record at 1-1 on the season and look to make it two straight victories by prevailing here. Against Miami, Minnesota trailed by five after the opening quarter, led by two at the half and by seven after three quarters. After the Heat cut the margin to three with 9:34 to play, the Timberwolves went on a game-breaking 19-1 run that put them in front 101-80 with 3:28 to go en route to the win. Minnesota shot 51.2% from the field, including 12 of 34 from three-point range, and held Miami to 40.2% shooting in the contest. Naz Reid piled up 25 points and eight rebounds off the bench to lead six Minnesota players in double figures in the win.

For the year, Minnesota is 30th in the leag ue in scoring offense with 100 points per game. Jaden McDaniels (calf) is questionable for this contest after missing the first two games of the year. Clark (Achilles) is expected to be out until mid-February after suffering an injury while still at UCLA. Watch for updates on McDaniels’ status leading to tip-off.
