Milwaukee Brewers (12-5) vs. Seattle Mariners (8-9)

The 2023 MLB season goes on Wednesday, April 19, with the Milwaukee Brewers squaring off against the Seattle Mariners in the interleague showdown at T-Mobile Park in Seattle, Washington, and the first pitch is set for 4:10 PM ET.  

Milwaukee and Seattle wrap up their three-game series. The Brewers took the opener 7-3, while Tuesday’s middle contest has been excluded from the analysis. The Mariners open as -120 moneyline favorites for the closing clash, and the totals sit at 8.5 runs. 

The Milwaukee Brewers have done an excellent job since a 4-0 defeat at the Chicago Cubs on Opening Day. They’ve won four of their first five sets in 2023 and still have to lose two games in a row. Last week, the Brewers dropped a three-game series at the Arizona Diamondbacks while beating the Padres in three of four games at Petco Park in San Diego. 

Milwaukee is tallying 4.94 runs per game (11th in the MLB) on a .263/.347/.414 slash line (.249/.324/.406 league average). The Brewers have slugged 21 home runs (tied-8th) and 21 doubles (tied-25th) through their first 17 games in 2023. On the other side of the ball, t hey are yielding just 3.06 runs per game (tied-3rd). 

Eric Lauer will toe the rubber Wednesday at T-Mobile Park, and the 27-year-old left-hander is 2-1 with a 5.28 ERA, 1.56 WHIP, and 15/7 K/BB ratio in three starts (15.1 innings pitched) this season. Lauer sandwiched an awful performance in a 6-0 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals (six earned runs on seven hits and three walks) with a couple of strong outings. Last Friday, he tossed six innings of a one-run ball in an 11-2 dismantling of the San Diego Padres. 

Lauer was 11-7 with a 3.69 ERA, 4.50 FIP, and 1.22 WHIP in 2022 (29 starts, 158.2 IP). He’s never met Seattle before, and the current Mariners are 5-for-34 against him.
