Milwaukee Brewers vs. Pittsburgh Pirates Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 8-2-2022

Milwaukee will try to take advantage of a struggling Pittsburgh squad when the teams square off in a series opener on Tuesday night. The Brewers wrapped up a three-game series with Boston on Sunday, coming up short of the sweep in a 7-2 final. Pittsburgh enters this series on a seven-game losing streak after getting swept by Philadelphia over the weekend.

Milwaukee has been in great form since returning from the All-Star break, winning all three of their series. The Brewers took three out of four against Colorado in their first series back before sweeping a two-game set with Minnesota. They added two out of three at Fenway Park against Boston over the weekend. Milwaukee made the headlines this week when it chose to trade star closer Josh Hader to San Diego. The Brewers are in first place in the National League Central, leading St. Louis by three games. They are 15.5 games ahead of Chicago, so it appears to be a two-team race down the stretch.

The Brewers have been a decent offensive team this season, ranked No. 17 with a batting average of .240. Left fielder Christian Yelich leads the way with 95 hits, while designated hitter Andrew McCutchen has 88 base knocks. They will be facing a Pittsburgh pitching staff that is No. 26 with an ERA of 4.62. Milwaukee’s Corbin Burnes will be on the mound in this game. He allowed three runs on five hits across six innings while striking out 11 against Minnesota in his last start. Burnes has struck out double-digit batters in three of his last four starts and has a 2.31 ERA and 0.92 WHIP through 124.2 innings. He remains in the running for his second straight NL Cy Young Award with quality starts in 15 of his 20 trips to the bump.
