Milwaukee Brewers vs. Arizona Diamondbacks Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 4-12-2023

Two teams off to fast starts will wrap up their three-game series on Wednesday as the Milwaukee Brewers take on the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Brewers are back atop the NL Central Division standings after failing to make the playoffs for the first time in three seasons in 2022. The Diamondbacks have started fast as well, including taking three of four games from the Dodgers over the weekend. The pitching matchup will feature Brewers' righty Brandon Woodruff (1-0, 0.79) taking on Diamondbacks' righty Drey Jameson (2-0, 2.16), who is making a spot start for Arizona. The first pitch is scheduled for 3:40 PM EST.

Last season was certainly a disappointment for a Brewers' team that had won the NL Central Division in each of the previous two seasons. The Brewers decided to part ways with closer Josh Hader at the trade deadline, along with several other moves, but things didn't pan out and the Brewers finished out of the playoffs. This offseason, Milwaukee added a bit more pop by adding catcher Wil Contreras and some starting pitching depth with left-hander Wade Miley and right-hander Bryce Wilson. The results have been positive so far after a 7-2 start heading into Arizona this week. The Brewers' offense was shut down in game one 3-0, with just three hits while striking out 15 times. On Tuesday night, the Brewers send former Cy Young winner Corbin Burnes to the mound to try and even the series.

The Brewers will hand the ball off to capable right-hander Brandon Woodruff to close out the series. Woodruff is 1-0 with an ERA of 0.79 in two starts. He has thrown 11.1 innings and allowed seven hits while owning a 9.5 K/9 ratio. On the road in 2022, Woodruff went 5-4 in 14 road starts in 2022 with an ERA of 4.10. He also had a K/9 ratio of 10.00 on the road. Woodruff made two starts against Arizona in 2022, going 0-1 with an ERA of 5.40. He threw 11.2 innings and allowed 10 hits with a K/9 ratio of 8.49 vs. the Diamondbacks.

Key Injuries: Starting pitchers Andy Ashby and Adrian Houser are both out.
