Michigan vs. Rutgers Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 11-5-2022

The Michigan Wolverines (8-0, 5-3, ATS, 2-6 O/U) collide with the Rutgers Scarlet Knights (4-4, 4-3-1 ATS, 3-5 O/U) in a Big Ten showdown on Saturday evening. The Wolverines defeated the rival Spartans last week. The Scarlet Knights were clobbered in an ugly road loss against Minnesota in their previous action. Michigan earned a 20-13 home win against Rutgers last season.

The Michigan Wolverines remain undefeated on the season. These wins have been dominating, winning by at least 13 points in all but one game in a 34-27 victory against Maryland. They beat Indiana by a 31-10 score two weeks ago and were huge 21-point favorites in a 29-7 home win against the rival Spartans on Saturday to improve to 5-0 in conference play. The Wolverines have now covered the spread in three out of their last four games overall.

J.J. McCarthy doesn’t post big stats on a squad that prefers to run. The sophomore QB is accurate, connecting on 74% of his pass attempts and has registered 1465 passing yards along with a 10:2 TD to INT ratio, and has added 197 rushing yards.

The Wolverines have one of the best RBs in the conference in Blake Corum. The junior RB has reached 100 rushing yards in five consecutive games and has logged a remarkable 1078 rushing y ards on 6 yards per carry. Ronnie Bell has made 20 receptions in his last three performances. The senior WR leads the squad with 482 receiving yards. The Michigan offense has scored at least 30 points in six of their eight games on the season.

The Wolverines' stifling defense continues to dazzle. They have conceded 17 or fewer points in four consecutive bouts including only seven points on 252 yards last week. There are no flaws in this unit, ranking eighth against the pass and third against the run. Michigan is ranked 5th in the CFB Playoff Poll and 4th in the AP Top 25. The Wolverines are scoring an average of 41 points on the season, good for eighth. They are limiting foes to 11.5 points, placing them third in the FBS.
