The Miami Ohio RedHawks are having an excellent season, they lost in their first game to Miami, then ran the table except for their one loss to Toledo. The game against Toledo was tight, Miami was down 21-3 and stormed back to make it 21-17, but ran out of time before completing the comeback. In their last game of the year, the RedHawks narrowly won in Ball State 17-15, failing to cover the 3.5-point spread as favorites. Miami has had all of this success despite losing their starting quarterback for the year back in the 8th game of the season.

Aveon Smith has taken over the quarterback position after Brett Gabbert's season ending injury. Smith has started the last four games but only averages 109.8 passing yards per game with a 2-2 TD-INT ratio. Smith has amassed 181 rushing yards over his four starts. Rashad Amos is their top running back, he averages 68.4 rushing yards per game with 10 rouchdo wns. Amos only ran for 55 yards earlier this season against Toledo. Gage Larvadian is the top receiver, he averages 52.1 yards per game and has six touchdowns, including a 99-yard score against UMass. Larvadian had 85 yards against Toledo earlier this year, and has over 250 more receiving yards than the next highest pass catcher on the team.

Miami Ohio is 2nd out of the 12 teams in the MAC in scoring with 27.3 PPG. They are strong at converting their drives into scores, they are only 6th in the conference in yardage, but still 2nd in scoring. Their defense also ranks 2nd in the league in scoring by allowing just 16.3 PPG. Defensive lineman Caiden Woullard is tied for the most sacks in the conference with 9.5 on the season. Linebacker Matt Salopek leads the team in tackles with 125 on the year, and no RedHawk has more than two interceptions on the year.
