Miami Marlins vs. Oakland Athletics Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 8-24-2022

The Miami Marlins will wrap up their three-game series with the Oakland A's on Wednesday afternoon as they conclude their six-game west coast trip. The Marlins are in fourth place in the NL East Division and well out of the playoff picture for 2022. The Oakland A's are only playing at this point to avoid the dubious distinction of ending up with the worst record in baseball. A pair of lefties will do battle in the final game of the series as the Marlins' Jesus Luzardo (3-5, 3.44) battles Oakland's Cole Irvin (6-11, 3.33). First pitch is scheduled for 3:37pm EST.

The Miami Marlins look to wrap up their six-game west coast trip on a high note with a win on Wednesday afternoon. The team got off to a slow start, getting swept by a dominant Dodgers team over the weekend. The Dodgers outscored the Marlins 19-4 in the three-game set. The Marlins got their first win on the trip on Monday night, 3-0 over one of the few teams that may be more offensively challenged than the Marlins, the Oakland A's. On Tuesday night, hoping to keep the momentum going, the Marlins were led by six shutout innings from starter Pablo Lopez on their way to a second-straight win over the A's.

The Marlins steady decline since the early part of the season can definitely be attributed to the team's porous offense. In their last 25 games, the team has been shut out three times and hitting a miserable .209 as a team. In that span, the team is scoring 2.3 runs per game, which is far and away the worst in baseball. Not surprisingly the team has gone 7-18 in that span. On the mound on Wednesday afternoon will be lefty Jesus Luzardo. Luzardo is just 1-3 in his last five games with an ERA of 3.81. He has allowed 18 hits in 26 innings pitched with 30 strikeouts. On the road, Luzardo is 2-2 with a 2.53 ERA this season.
