Miami Marlins (24-23) vs. Colorado Rockies (19-28)

The 2023 Major League Baseball season goes on Tuesday, May 23, with the Miami Marlins taking on the Colorado Rockies in the National League showdown at Coors Field in Denver, Colorado, and the first pitch is set for 8:40 PM ET.

Miami and Colorado lock horns in the second of a four-game series in Denver, and Monday night’s opener has been excluded from the analysis. The Marlins are slight moneyline favorites for Tuesday’s battle, while the totals are listed at 11.5 runs.

The Miami Marlins suffered a 7-5 defeat at the San Francisco Giants this past Sunday and dropped a three-game set at Oracle Park in San Francisco. After a 4-3 defeat in Friday’s opener that put an end to their four-game winning streak, the Marlins beat the Giants 1-0 on Saturday. Miami has gone 7-4 over its previous 11 games overall, and nine of those 11 contests have been decided by one or two runs.

The Marlins are 15-2 in one-run games this season. They own the lowest-scoring offense in the majors, tallying 3.49 runs per game. The Marlins rank 26th in on-base percentage (.304), 21st in slugging percentage (.384), and 25th in OPS+ (89). Miami is slashing .261/.304/.399 with six home runs and nine extra-base hits in the last seven days and 203 at-bats.

Eury Perez will toe the slab Tuesday at Coors Field. The 20-year-old rookie right-hander will make his third major-league start, carrying a 1-0 record, 2.79 ERA, 1.03 WHIP, and 13/3 K/BB ratio across 9.2 innings of work. Last Thursday, Perez earned his first win in the big leagues. He tossed five innings of a one-run, three-hit ball while striking out six in a 5-3 victory to the Washington Nationals.
