Miami saw their three-game win streak come to an end as they were knocked off on the road by the basement-dwelling Hornets on the road Sunday afternoon. The Heat entered Monday 28-23 on the season and held a 2.5-game lead on the Hawks for the top spot in the Southeast Division. In the East, the team was sixth, seven games behind Boston for the top spot: they held a one-game lead over the seventh-place Knicks for the final guaranteed playoff spot and 4.5 games ahead of 11th-place Indiana to remain in the playoff field. Against Charlotte, Miami led by four at the half and opened the second half on a 10-1 run to take a 72-59 lead with 8:32 to play in the third quarter before things unraveled. The Heat was outscored 32-14 the rest of the stanza to trail 91-86 and never got closer than two the rest of the way.
