It will be a rematch of the Eastern Conference Finals on Friday night at TD Garden in Boston as the Miami Heat meet the Celtics. The two teams have actually met in each of the last two Eastern Conference Finals, splitting series wins, and both are anxious to once again represent the conference in the NBA Finals. Both teams are 1-0 heading into this matchup with the Heat winning at home and the Celtics pulling off a victory on the road. The opening tap is scheduled for 7:30 PM EST.

The Miami Heat began defense of their Eastern Conference crown with a tougher-than-expected 103-102 home win over the Pistons on Wednesday night. Miami led the game by 19 points with under ten minutes left before the young Pistons team came alive to nearly steal the win. Detroit's Cade Cunningham actually missed a 30-foot jumper to close out the game as time expired.

“I loved it,” Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said. “I loved the emotion tonight. I loved the energy. A lot of good things.”

The Heat made a habit out of winning close games last season so some might say that the team is already in midseason form. As usual, the team was led by its two all-stars, Bam Adebayo and Jimmy Butler. Adebayo scored 22 points while Butler chipped in with a double-double of 19 points and 13 rebounds. Veteran Kevin Love also had a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds and Tyler Herro returned from a summer on the trade block to finish with 16 points.

Miami was comfortable playing tight games last season, going 14-8 in games decided by three points or less during the season. That carried over into the playoffs as the Heat were able to outduel more talented rosters like Milwaukee and Boston on their way to the Eastern Conference title. Miami did struggle with its field goal percentage in the regular season last year and that carried over on opening night. The Heat should just 40% from the field overall but did shoot 36% from 3pt range. Miami's undersized roster was also outrebounded by the spry Pistons 56-48 on the night.

Key Injuries: SG Josh Richardson (foot) is questionable.
