The Memphis Grizzlies have struggled out of the gates this season, winless in each of their first four games. Memphis is transitioning this year as they start the season without All-NBA performer Ja Morant, who is serving a 25-game suspension handed down by the league for his conduct away from the floor. The Grizzlies also moved on from defensive stalwart Dillon Brooks and have lost center Steven Adams for the season to a knee injury. The team has added former Defensive Player of the Year Marcus Smart along with Luke Kinnard as they try to rebuild their roster as a playoff contender once again. It hasn't gone according to plan to start the season. On Monday night, the Grizzlies lost their fourth straight game, 125-110, to the Mavericks at home. The Grizzlies were led by Desmond Bane and Jaren Jackson Jr. with 30 points apiece. Marcus Smart chipped in with 23 points but fouled out in the game. The Grizzlies haven't been 0-4 to start a season in 20 years and Monday night's loss was the team's largest margin of defeat this season.

“We've been close,” Bane said of the rough start, “and sooner rather than later, we're going to get in the win column.”

The Grizzlies have struggled to put up points this season without their leading scorer, Morant. They are currently 22nd in the NBA in points per game after finishing 10th in the NBA in scoring in 2022-23. The team's shooting percentage is down slightly from last year overall and they are lacking Morant's ability to create his own offense off of the dribble. Without Adams and other key missing big men, the Grizzlies have been pounded on the boards thus far this season. After finishing third in the league in rebounding last year, the Grizzlies are 21st in the NBA in rebounding. The Grizzlies have also done a terrible job at getting out on shooter thus far, ranking 29th in the NBA in opponent's 3-point shooting percentage. Last season, the Grizzlies were a solid 9th in that department.

Key Injuries: G Luke Kennard (concussion), PF Santi Aldama (ankle), PF Brandon Clark (achilles) are out. C Steven Adams (knee) is out for the season.
