Memphis Grizzlies vs. Phoenix Suns Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 12-23-2022

Memphis Grizzlies (19-11) vs. Phoenix Suns (19-13)

The 2022-23 NBA season continues with a massive 14-game Friday card, bringing plenty of interesting matchups to the bettors including the Western Conference showdown between the Memphis Grizzlies and Phoenix Suns at Footprint Center in Phoenix, Arizona.

Memphis and Phoenix start their four-game regular-season series, and the Grizzlies eye their third straight victory over the Suns. The visitors are without Desmond Bane (toe) and Danny Green (knee), while the Suns miss Cameron Johnson (knee). Phoenix also listed five players as questionable including Devin Booker (groin) and Chris Paul (shoulder).

After putting an end to their seven-game winning streak with a 115-109 defeat at the Oklahoma City Thunder this past Saturday, the Memphis Grizzlies (19-11; 14-14-2 ATS) remained on the losing track on Tuesday night, suffering a 105-91 loss at the Denver Nuggets. The Grizzlies failed to hit a 100-point mark against one of the worst defensive teams in the league, shooting 44.4% from the field and 5-for-26 from beyond the arc.

Memphis outscored Denver 62-50 in the paint, but the Grizzlies were ice-cold in the first quarter, allowing the Nuggets to jump out on a 35-14 lead. Ja Morant finished the game with 35 points and ten assists, while the rest of the pack had an awful day in the office. Jaren Jackson Jr. had eight points, five blocks, and a couple of rebounds, and Dillon Brooks added 11 points, seven boards, and three steals.

“Two games in a row we don’t come out in the first quarter and we pay the price for it,” Memphis coach Taylor Jenkins said. “We were getting some good shots early; we just need to convert those and give ourselves a better start to the game.”

Now, the Grizzlies are tied with the Nuggets for the No. 1 seed in the West. The Grizzlies tally 113.8 points per 100 possessions (12th in the league) while making 35.2% of their 3-pointers (17th). Memphis allows 109.7 points per 100 possessions (5th) on 50.9% shooting from inside the arc (tied-2nd) and 35.7% from beyond the 3-point line (tied-13th).
