Matt Painter's Career NCAA Tournament Record
Matt Painter's Career NCAA Tournament Record

In his 18 full seasons as a Division I head coach, Matt Painter has made the NCAA Tournament 14 times. He has a 17-14 record in NCAA Tournament games. All but one Division I tournament game took place while he was head coach at Purdue.

Purdue has been upset by higher seeds in five of its last nine appearances, leading to prompts that the Boilermakers are a bad bet when it comes to March Madness and NCAA Basketball odds.

Painter has made one Elite Eight during his time at Purdue, in 2019. He has advanced to the second week of the tournament six times: in 2009, 2010, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2022.

Painter and the Boilermakers have qualified for the NCAA Tournament nearly every season dating back to 2007. The lone exceptions are a two-year dip from 2012-14, as well as 2020, when the tournament was canceled due to Covid.
