Maryland (3-0 SU, 1-2 ATS) visits East Lansing to take on Michigan State (2-1 SU, 2-1 ATS) on Saturday at 3:30pmET from Spartan Stadium.

Last season in early October, the Terps were able to beat Sparty at home 27-13 as a 7.5-point favorite, which is the line at press time.

Maryland routed Virginia 42-14 as a 15.5-point favorite in their last game at home. But they were down 14-0 for the second straight week. They also beat Charlotte 38-20 at home as a 24.5-point favorite after trailing by the same score early in the game.

“Well, what happens is and what I’ve kind of think is my philosophy is that what’s happened to us is that we don’t adjust to the speed of it until we get punched in the mouth after the first quarter and now, we understand it,” said Maryland head coach Mike Locksley at insidetheblackandgold.net. “And so, what I’ve done is I’ve reinstituted the good-on-good periods in our practice where we’ll get the speed of what it looks like or should look like and then again, we have to make the point of emphasis that the guys that are on that developmental squad, the guys that wear the black jerseys, it’s important.”&#13 ;

The concern for Maryland should not only be the slow starts, but the secondary, who gave up 263 yards passing to freshman Anthony Colandrea, though they also picked him off three times. Ultimately, Maryland came out on top in the first three games at home against subpar competition. It gets tougher now with Ohio State coming up on Oct. 7. But if the Terps shore things up in the secondary, and the offensive line and start out quicker, they have a shot at being 5-0 after facing MSU and Indiana at home before they meet the Buckeyes.

The key to the Terps' success is quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa. He completed 19 of 30 for 342 yards with a TD and no picks against the Cavaliers. Overall, he's completing 66.7% of his passes for 889 yards with five TDs and two picks. Both interceptions came against Charlotte and were a big reason for his slow start. But he's not alone as Roman Hemby has 243 yards rushing and four TDs (6.1ypc). Their top receiver has been TE Cory Dyches, who has 16 catches for 195 yards and a TD.

The defense is allowing 314.7 yards per game (50th) and 193.3 yards passing per game (40th). They are allowing just 13.3 points per game (21st), but they've also faced FCS Towson, Charlotte and a Virginia team that might win a game or two this season.
