Maryland Terrapins – 2022 College Football Season Preview & Wins Total Prediction

Last season the Maryland Terrapins finished 7-6 overall and 3-6 in Big Ten play. This season odds makers have given the Maryland Terrapins a projected wins total of 5.5. Last season Maryland played in its first bowl game in the past six years. Mike Locksley returns as the head coach for his fourth season at the helm.

Quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa returns to guide the Maryland offense. Last season Tagovailoa set single-season records at Maryland for passing yards with 3,860, completions with 328, completion percentage with 69.2%, 300-yard passing games with seven and passing touchdowns with 26. Tagovailoa threw 11 interceptions but five came against Iowa and only three came during the final seven games. A veteran offensive line led by Jaelyn Duncan has four returning starters.

Colby McDonald will be the lead running back for Maryland but freshmen Ramon Brown is expected to see plenty of action. Rakim Jarrett returns as a sure-handed, speedy wide receiver that last season caught 62 passes for 829 yards and five touchdowns. Dontay Demus Jr returns after missing the final seven games of last season with a knee injury and Jacob Copeland transferred from Florida after last season being the leading receiver for the Gators.

Maryland's defense will have its fourth defensive coordinator since 2019. ' Maryland's front line will be led by Mosiah Nasili-Kite and Ami Finau along with Darrell Jackson Jr. Maryland's linebackers will be led by middle linebacker Ruben Hyppolite II who will move to the outside, while transfer Vandarius Cowan from West Virginia and freshman Jaishawn Barham give the Terrapins a very solid group of starters. Deonte Banks returns as the top cornerback for Maryland joined by returnees Tarheeb Still and Jakorian Bennett.
