Maryland at Rutgers – 1/5/23 College Basketball Picks and Prediction

The Maryland Terrapins will head up to Jersey and face the Rutgers Scarlet Knights in Big Ten action from the RAC on the Big Ten Network. Rutgers and Maryland both joined the Big Ten in 2014, and the Terps hold the head-to-head series lead, 10-3.

Maryland dropped to 10-4 after losing to Michigan in Ann Arbor. The Terps had a rough New Year’s Day, and after scoring just 13 first half points, they’d suffer their biggest defeat of the season, 81-46. Maryland is scoring 72.8 points per game, while allowing 63.2 ppg, and shooting 45.1% from the floor.

Maryland’s 8-0 start has been marred by a rough month of December carried into the new year. The Terrapins will look to bounce back here, and it has to start with four-year starter Donta Scott (12.6 ppg, 6.2 rpg). The veteran forward jumped out to a fast start, but his play dipped during the final month of the year, as he failed to score more than 12 points in all seven games. Charlotte transfer Jahmir Young has been a bit more consistent, and he leads MD in scoring (14.1) and assists (3.2). Hakim Hart scored 20 points in the win over St. Peter’s, and he’s third on the team in scoring at 12.6 ppg.
