The Marshall Thunder Herd picked up a win in their Sun Belt Conference opener and improved to 6-8 overall on the season with a 75-61 win over Louisiana on Saturday at home. The Herd led from the start thanks to a 17-4 run to open the game. They finished the game with five double-figure scorers. Nate Martin led the way with his eighth double-double of the season with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Obinna Anochili-Killen chipped in with 15 points, Kamdyn Curfman had 13 points and four assists while Wyatt Fricks and Kevon Voyles each had 10 points as well.
“I was proud of them. We were 5-8 and a program that won 24 games last year. You could have easily put your head down,” Herd men's basketball head coach Dan D'Antoni said after the 170th win of his collegiate coaching career. “These kids didn't.”
Marshall hopes to get back on track and put together another strong confer ence season with a second straight win in Sun Belt play on Wednesday night. The Herd are 141st in the nation in scoring offense this season. They are just 292nd in field goal percentage and 286th in 3-point shooting.
