Marquette vs. Georgetown Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 2-11-2023

Once Upon A Time In Las Vegas – Super Bowl

The Georgetown Hoyas play host to the Marquette Golden Eagles on Saturday afternoon from Capital One Arena in a Big East clash. These two teams come into this one on opposite sides of the Big East standings, though are both coming off of losses as well their last time out. The Golden Eagles won the first meeting between the two about a month ago with relative ease, though going on the road for the rematch could be the equalizer. With the season drawing to an end, this is definitely one that fans will want to tune in for.

Even though they are coming off a loss their last time out, the Golden Eagles still remain tied for first place in the conference and will be looking for a crucial win in this one. Marquette had won five games in a row before their loss on the road to UConn the last time out, though the schedule doesn't get easier after Saturday. Xavier and Creighton are up next and Marquette will need to avoid a defeat in this one to avoid a lengthy losing streak. The road hasn't been easy for Marquette this season, where they have just a 5-4 record, though with Georgetown sitting in the basement of the conference, and the Golden Eagles having won the road game there last season, they'll like their chances in this one.

The Golden Eagles also have two injuries to worry about as they continue to navigate their road trip. Emarion Ellis (knee) remains out through the next few weeks, while Zach Wrightsil (knee) is out for the season. Ellis has yet to play this season, while Wrightsil appeared in only three games. While their depth might be impacted down the road without the pair, Saturday doesn't appear to be the matchup where those absences come into play.

Marquette's offense expects to give Georgetown issues in this one and their scoring punch might be too much for the Hoyas to overcome. The Golden Eagles rank 22nd nationally in scoring and are fifth in field-goal percentage. With the Hoyas having one of the worst defenses in the country, the Golden Eagles shouldn't have any issues replicating their success from the first meeting. They have four double-figure scorers, with Kam Jones (15.3 ppg) leading the way. It helps to balance with Olivier Maxence Propser (13.0 ppg) leading in the frontcourt, though Tyler Kolek (11.5 ppg, 7.7apg) is the x-factor for this group, considering how often he has the ball in his hands.
