Two of the most disappointing teams in college basketball will square off on Saturday afternoon when Louisville travels to Florida State on Saturday afternoon. The Cardinals are riding an eight-game losing streak, with the most recent five losses all coming by double digits. Florida State has lost nine of its first 10 games, but it is coming off a competitive outing at then-No. 3 Virginia last Saturday.

Louisville has lost its first eight games of the season for the first time since the 1940-41 season when it dropped its first 11 games of the campaign. The Cardinals have also matched the worst start ever by an ACC team, tying the 1960-61 Virginia squad. They are playing in their first season under head coach Kenny Payne, who has been unable to get much out of his team on the offensive end. The Cardinals have been held under 70 points in all but one game this season, failing to score 55 points in four of their last five games.

They are coming off consecutive blowout losses to Arkansas, Texas Tech, Cincinnati, Maryland and Miami. Their numbers tell the story, as they are No. 350 among Division I teams in points per game (57.4). They also have the fewest assists per game (7.3) of any team in college basketball. Guard El Ellis has been one of the few bright spots, averaging 15.6 points per game. However, he is coming off his worst outing of the year, shooting 1 of 10 and finishing with just seven points in the loss to Miami. Ellis is the only player on the team averaging double digits, with junior forward Jae’Lyn Withers second in scoring with 8.6 points per game.
