These two schools have never met before, and Louisiana opened as an 8.5-point road fave with a total of 48.0 points. At the time of writing, the Ragin’ Cajuns were 5.5-point favorites with a total of 51.5 points, so let’s take a closer look.
The Louisiana Rajin’ Cajuns defeated the Northwestern State Demons 38-13 in their season opener but failed to beat a 35-point line in front of the home fans. Louisiana outgained its opponents 429-187 in total yards while holding the Demons to just eight 1st downs. However, the Ragin’ Cajuns lost the turnover battle 3-1, and senior QB Ben Wooldridge completed just 14 of his 32 passing attempts while throwing for 223 yards, three touchdowns, and an interception.
“Too many drops and missed throws — just not exactly perfect,” Louisiana head coach Michael Desormeaux said. “The quarterback needs to be more accurate, and we have to make the play on some of these tough catches. We have to be more efficient in the pass game.”
The Ragin’ Cajuns dominated Northwestern State on the ground, racking up 206 yards on 34 carries. Sophomore RB Dre’lyn Washington ran eight times for 88 yards and a TD, senior RB Jacob Kibodi carried the pigskin nine times for 49 yards, and Ben Wooldridge added six totes for 29 yards and a TD. On the other side of the ball, Louisiana held the Demons to 77 yards on 40 carries while posting five sacks and eight tackles for loss.
