Los Angeles Rams vs. Los Angeles Chargers Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 1-1-2023

The Los Angeles Rams (5-10, 6-8-1 ATS, 6-9 O/U) meet the Los Angeles Chargers (9-6, 9-5-1 ATS, 6-9 O/U) in the battle of L.A. showdown on Sunday afternoon. The Rams found the win column with a blowout home win against the Broncos on Christmas Day. The Chargers posted a road win against the Colts on Monday night. These rivals last met in 2018 in a game the Rams won by a 35-23 score.

The Los Angeles Rams enter this one with confidence. They were dealt a loss in Green Bay two weeks ago and rebounded with a dominating 51-14 home win against the Broncos on Christmas in a bout that had the Rams marked as small three-point dogs. Los Angeles has now won two out of their last three games. It’s been a very disappointing season for the defending champs and injuries have certainly played a factor. They have covered the spread in four out of their last five games.

Baker Mayfield will get the start as Matthew Stafford is out for the season. Mayfield was outstanding last week, recording 230 passing yards. The veteran QB struggled as a member of the Panthers but has looked good in three games since arriving in the trade and has 1884 passing yards and a 10:7 TD to INT ratio. Cam Akers had a season-best 118 rushing yards last week. It’s been a subpar year for the 23-year-old runn ing back, amassing only 559 rushing yards on 3.8 yards per rush.

Cooper Kupp remains out of action along with Ben Skowronek. Tyler Higbee has stepped up. The 29-year-old collected 94 receiving yards last week and now has 576 yards on the season. The LA offense has struggled most of the season, even before the injuries hit.

The Rams' defense has been stellar recently, allowing 24 or fewer points in three straight games and limited the Broncos to only 323 total yards last week. Aaron Donald did not play last week and has missed the last four games. He is questionable. The pass defense is 22nd while the rush defense is strong, marking fifth. Los Angeles is scoring an average of 18.7 points, ranking them 26th. They are allowing an average of 22.3 points, placing them 18th in the NFL.
