It’s a win or go home contest in the National League Division Series as a pair of NL West rivals continue their series in southern California. It’s the Los Angeles Dodgers making the in-state trek down I-15 as they face the San Diego Padres in Game 3 of their best-of-five series Friday night. These teams split the first two games of the set in the City of Angels with the Dodgers prevailing 5-3 in the series opener Tuesday night before the Padres answered with a similar 5-3 triumph in Game 2 of the series on Wednesday night. Will the series come to a halt here or will we see a winner-take-all Game 5? This article was published prior to the conclusion of Game 3 at Petco Park Friday night.

Los Angeles lost home field advantage in the series as they were unable to earn the victory in Game 2 of the series Wednesday night. The Dodgers seek to continue what has been a season of success against the Padres in this contest to keep things going. In Game 2 Wednesday night, Los Angeles got two hits each from Gavin Lux, Max Muncy (run, RBI) and Freddie Freeman (run, RBI) in the loss. Freeman (his first), Muncy (his first) and Trea Turner (his second) each homered in the loss for the Dodgers, who were zero for eight with runners in scoring position in the game. Clayton Kershaw didn’t factor in the decision as he threw five innings, allowing three runs on six hits with no walks and six strikeouts. Brusdar Graterol (0-1) took the loss in relief as he threw one inning, allowing one run (none earned) on two hits with no walks or strikeouts.

Tyler Anderson is on the hill for the Dodgers in this contest for his first postseason start of the season after making 30 appearances, 28 starts, in the regular season. He was 15-5 with a 2.57 ERA, a 1.002 WHIP, 34 walks and 138 strikeouts over 178.2 innings of work on the year. Anderson took the loss in his last start of the regular season, which came October 2 against the Rockies at home. He threw five innings, allowing two runs on six hits with no walks and 10 strikeouts in a 4-1 Dodgers loss. In his last three starts, Anderson is 0-2 with a 2.12 ERA, a 0.76 WHIP, two walks and 19 strikeouts over 17 innings of work. Anderson makes his 16th career appearance and 15th start against the Padres in this contest. He comes in 6-3 with a 2.36 ERA, a 1.084 WHIP, 23 walks and 67 strikeouts over 87.2 innings of work against them. Anderson is 1-2 with a 3.12 ERA, a 0.981 WHIP, eight walks and 25 strikeouts over 34.2 innings in six career starts at Petco Park.
