Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Miami Marlins Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 8-27-2022

The Los Angeles Dodgers continue their weekend series on the southeast coast as they battle the Miami Marlins on Saturday. The Dodgers are running away with the NL West with a lead of nearly 20 games and own the best record in baseball. For the Marlins, the season is already at a loss and the team will spend the better part of the last month of the season taking a look at some of the organization's younger talent. On the mound on Saturday will be right-hander Dustin May (1-0, 0.00) of the Dodgers vs. fellow righty Sandy Alcantara (11-6, 2.19) of the Marlins. First pitch is scheduled for 6:10pm EST.

The Dodgers may be exceeding even the lofty expectations the team was given at the start of the season. The Dodgers are nearly 50 games over .500 heading into Friday night's game with the Marlins and are primed to be the #1 seed throughout the playoffs. Since the all-star break, the Dodgers are 26-7 and have surpassed the Yankees as the clear, best team in baseball. On Friday night in Miami, the Dodgers pulled out a 10-6 win in extra innings thanks to a five-run 10th inning. Mookie Betts led the way, going 4-for-6 with two home runs.

The Dodgers did receive some bad news recently when it was announced that ace pitcher Walker Buehler will undergo Tommy John surgery and is out for the year. While such news could bury other teams, the Dodgers have easily adjusted with the return of Saturday's starter Dustin May. May, who also underwent Tommy John surgery last season, came back last week against these same Marlins and looked like a pitcher that never left MLB. He went five innings, allowed just one hit and struck out nine batters in a dominant performance. While May could have a bit more difficulty in his second go-round against the Marlins, he looks like a key addition to a team aiming for a World Series title this year.
