Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Chicago Cubs Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 4-22-2023

The Los Angeles Dodgers (10-10, 9-11 RL, 9-10-1 O/U) and the Chicago Cubs (11-7, 12-6 RL, 9-9 O/U) resume a four-game series Saturday afternoon from the Friendly Confines of Wrigley Field. The Dodgers give the starting call to Dustin May. The Cubs are sending Hayden Wesneski to the mound. The series is 2-2.

Dustin May will get the nod for the fourth time on Saturday. May was rocked in his previous start, serving up five runs one on eight hits in 5.2 innings against the Mets, and was able to escape with the no-decision in a game the Dodgers lost. The right-hander was dominant in his first three outings which included seven scoreless innings against the Diamondbacks and is sporting a 3.00 ERA and a dazzling 0.92 WHIP and a 1-1 record in 24 innings pitched. This is his first career meeting against the Cubs.

The Dodgers haven’t quite found a groove yet this season but its no reason for concern considering the Padres have also been mediocre. The Dodgers lost two of three home games to the Cubs last weekend and dropped another home series to the Mets this week. The offense was in sync in Thursday’s 6-2 win in the series opener.

It was a slow start at the dish for JD Martinez but the veteran is heating up, launching two homers and five RBIs in his last four games. The veteran slugger now has three bombs with 14 RBIs and an .828 OPS. Martinez was kept in check by the Cubs last week, going only 2 for 11 and went 0 for 5 in the series opener. Will Smith remains out while Chris Taylor is questionable.

The Dodgers are posting an average of 5.25 runs per game, marking them sixth.  The pitching staff has amassed a 4.09 team ERA, placing them 13th.
