A pair of struggling AFC squads are going to duke it out on Sunday afternoon. The Los Angeles Chargers (4-7; 3-7-1 ATS) are across the country, where the New England Patriots (2-9; 2-9-0 ATS) call home. That would be Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, with kickoff scheduled for 1:00 p.m. EDT. Will travel take its toll on the Chargers, or are the Patriots simply not good enough? The truth will be revealed shortly.

This Chargers team had high hopes (again) entering the season, and three straight losses have them at 4-7. The latest was a 20-10 home defeat against the Ravens which has their playoff hopes hanging by a thread. It was the offense that disappointed, with an uncharacteristic 10-point night, albeit against arguably the NFL's best defense. This group is putting up 24.5 points per game (8th), a number that they'll try to return to this weekend. Most of the damage comes through the air, where they're 11th in total passing yards and 12th in yards per attempt. Keenan Allen (97 catches/1,117 yards/7 touchdowns) continues to be unguardable when healthy. This offense is also tied for the sixth-fewest giveaways, having only turned the ball over 12 times. A lot of seats are hot right now, but even with a subpar ru shing attack, it's not because of the offense.

Los Angeles' defense, which is expensive and talented, is having another underwhelming season. They're giving up 23.5 points per game (23rd), and have only held three teams under 20 points. Those three teams were the Raiders with a backup QB, the Bears with a backup QB, and the Jets with a backup QB. The Chargers have the sixth-most sacks, and everything else is pretty ugly. They allow 5.8 yards per play (29th), 280.0 passing yards per game (32nd), and 4.2 yards per rush (20th). Their takeaway counter is a modest 15. The Chargers have an opportunity in front of them this week, and they need to cash in.
