Los Angeles Angels vs. Atlanta Braves Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 7-24-2022

The Los Angeles Angels and the Atlanta Braves will complete their weekend series on Sunday in Atlanta. The Angels continue to free-fall down the standings in the AL West and sit in 4th place now, ahead of the last-place Oakland A's. The Braves continue their charge towards the top of the NL East standings and are now just a 1/2 game behind the New York Mets. Sunday's pitching matchup will feature rookie lefty Reid Detmers (2-3, 4.11) of the Angels taking on righty Ian Anderson (8-5, 4.79) of the Braves. First pitch is scheduled for 135pm EST.

The Angels now sit at 39-55 on the season and are inching closer to the bottom of the division standings than they are to the top of the division. The Angels have now lost five straight games and are just 1-9 in their last ten games. Things have not been made easier with all-star centerfielder Mike Trout sitting on the IL with a rib issue. On Saturday, the Angels lost the second game of this series with Atlanta, 7-2. Starter Patrick Sandoval was roughed up, going just three innings and giving up eight hits and five runs in the loss. Shohei Ohtani belted his 20th home run in the loss.

The Angels offense has disappeared with the loss of Trout in recent games. The Halos have scored just seven runs in their five-game losing streak as they sorely miss Trout's bat in the middle of the lineup. On the mound on Sunday will be lefty Reid Detmers. Detmers has made 14 starts this season and has had just three quality starts thus far. Since throwing a no-hitter on May 10th, Detmers has gone 0-2 and has only gone six innings in three of his eight starts. He has pitched better in his two starts in July, going six innings in each appearance and sporting a nifty 1.50 ERA.
