A pair of teams from the Big West Conference take the floor in search of a victory in the Golden State. The Long Beach State Beach are on the road as they travel to face the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos Thursday night. Long Beach State was edged 70-67 at home by Hawaii in their previous contest Saturday, losing outright as a two-point favorite. UC Santa Barbara was knocked off 74-60 at home by CSU Fullerton in their most recent game Monday night, losing outright as a seven-point favorite. In the all-time series between the schools, the Beach own a 65-46 advantage though it was the Gauchos taking a 75-72 road win in the first meeting this season February 9.

Long Beach State lost their second straight and for the third time in their last four games as they were beaten at home by Hawaii Saturday. The Beach fell to 15-13 overall and stand tied for sixth in the Big West, four games behind UC Irvine for the top spot. Against Hawaii, Long Beach State trailed by as many as 13 in the first half and by 10 at intermission. The Beach couldn’t make a big dent most of the second half, trailing 64-51 with 4:41 to play, before going on a 15-2 run to tie the game at 66 with 1:27 remaining. Unfortunately, Long Beach State scored only one more point to wind up with the loss. The Beach shot 41.7% from the field, including five of 14 from three-point range, and lost the rebounding battle 32-28. AJ George led Long Beach State with 20 points in the loss.

The Beach is averaging 76.5 points per game this season, which is 64th in the nation when it comes to s coring offense. Long Beach State collects 41.3 boards a night (2nd in the nation) while dishing out 15 assists per contest. The Beach must be better on the defensive end of the floor as they are giving up an average of 74 points per contest this season, leaving them 297th in the country in scoring defense. Joel Murray leads the team with 15.7 points a night this season. Marcus Tsohonis (15.3 points) and Lassina Traore (12 points, 10.4 rebounds) are also averaging in double figures this season. Jadon Jones, Aboubacar Traore (9.8 points, 8.6 boards), AJ George, Tone Hunter, Amari Stroud, Chayce Polynice and Tobias Rotegaard each play double-digit minutes a night for coach Dan Monson but they need to be more productive on both ends of the floor. Long Beach State shoots 45.2% from the field as a team. The Beach average 4.4 three-pointers a game while shooting only 29.2% from long range. Long Beach State shoots a dismal 68.1% from the line as a team this season.&#13 ;
