However, Texas has a looming rivalry game against the Oklahoma Sooners at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas in Week 6. The question arises: could Kansas catch Texas off guard this weekend in Austin?

This is my favorite way to play the lookahead spot for the Longhorns, because there are multiple avenues for the Jayhawks to score double-digit points in the second half. This game could be closer than anticipated, or Kansas could produce against reserves after Texas jumps out to a big lead.
The former happened in Year 1 of the Lance Leipold era, when Kansas secured a 57-56 overtime upset as a 31-point underdog in Austin. The latter occurred last year, when KU netted a pair of second-half touchdowns after UT raced out to a 41-0 lead in Lawrence.
Kansas has become one of the more potent offenses in the country over the last two seasons. This team is averaging 37.8 points per game through four weeks after ranking 21st in the country with an average of 35.6 points per contest a season ago.
More importantly, the Jayhawks have had a knack for starting slow for much of the last two years. They are aver aging 17 points per game during the second half in 2023, clearing this mark in three of the four outings.
