Kansas vs. Oklahoma Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 10-15-2022

A pair of Big 12 programs looking to get back in the win column take the field in search of victory down in the Sooner State. The #19 Kansas Jayhawks are on the road as they make the trip to face the Oklahoma Sooners Saturday afternoon. Kansas battled but came up with a 38-31 home loss to #17 TCU in their most recent game last Saturday with College Gameday in attendance. Oklahoma found themselves clobbered in the latest edition of the Red River Shootout as they were bombed 49-0 by Texas last Saturday. In the all-time series between the teams, the Sooners own a 78-22-6 advantage and have won the last 17 meetings. That includes a 35-23 road victory in the most recent matchup on October 23, 2021.

Kansas, despite losing star quarterback Jalon Daniels in the first half with a shoulder injury, hung in the whole way and had a chance to force overtime with TCU before turning the ball over on downs in the final minute. The Jayhawks fell to 5-1 overall and 2-1 in the Big 12 with the defeat. Against TCU, Kansas struggled for most of the first half though their defense stepped up as they were down 10-3 at the half. Each team exploded in the second half, scoring four touchdowns, but that left Kansas on the short end of a seven-point margin. The Jayhawks held a 540-452 advantage in total offense, edged TCU 22-21 in first downs and owned the time of possession by a 33:59 to 26:01 margin. Each team turned the ball over twice but the Jayhawks couldn’t deliver one final answer after TCU took the lead with 1:36 to play.

On the season, the Jayhawks are 86th in the nation in passing offense with 226.3 yards per contest through the air while they are tied for 18th in rushing offense with 213.7 yards per game on the ground. Kansas stands 16th in the FBS in scoring offense with an average of 39.8 points per game while they are 72nd in scoring defense by allowing 26.3 points per contest. Jalon Daniels is 78 of 117 passing for 1,072 yards with 11 touchdowns against one interception this season. He is second on the team with 335 rushing yards and five scores on the year. Jason Bean is 18 of 26 for 286 yards with four touchdowns against one interception while adding 19 yards plus a score on the ground. Devin Neal is the team’s lead back as he has run the ball 84 times for 421 yards and four scores. Daniel Hishaw Jr. (44 carries, 259 yards, five TD) and Sevion Morrison (13 carries, 150 yards, TD) are also effective runners in the system. Luke Grimm leads the team with 25 catches for 281 yards plus three scores this season. Lawrence Arnol d (17 grabs, 235 yards, TD) and Quentin Skinner (12 grabs, 232 yards, three TD) are the only other players with at least 150 receiving yards this season. Jacob Borcila has hit all 32 extra point attempts but is three of six on field goal attempts with a long of 40 this season.

Daniels was knocked out of the game in the first half against TCU with a shoulder injury. According to coach Lance Leipold, he is doubtful to play this week, which means Bean, who started 10 games a season ago, would be the man under center for this contest.
