Kansas City Royals vs. Toronto Blue Jays Prediction, Preview, and Odds – 7-16-2022

Kansas City will play the third game of its four-game series at Toronto when the teams square off on Saturday afternoon. The Royals, who are without multiple key players due to COVID-19 restrictions, picked up a 3-1 win in the series opener on Thursday. This story was published prior to Friday night’s game.

Kansas City’s season has been defined by a disastrous stretch from the middle of May to the beginning of June. The Royals lost 15 out of 18 games, which put them way below the .500 mark. They have started to recover of late, but they appear destined to miss the postseason. Kansas City took two out of three against Cleveland last weekend before taking three out of four against Detroit. The Royals were able to overcome multiple missing starters on Thursday, notching a 3-1 win. They are 10.5 games back of the final AL Wild Card spot, though.

The Royals are playing without four of their top five players this weekend due to Canada’s COVID-19 restrictions, along with multiple other players. Left fielder Edward Olivares had three hits on Thursday, while shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. added two hits. They will be facing a Toronto pitching staff that is No. 20 with an ERA of 4.03. Left-handed pitcher Daniel Lynch is going to start for Kansas City on Saturday afternoon. He spent a few days on the injured list due to a blister on his left index finger, but he returned on Monday to allow three runs across four innings before exiting with another injury to a finger on his left hand. Lynch, who is 3-7 with a 4.92 ERA this season, has been cleared to start on Saturday.
